Celebrate Fall at Mount Vernon

Join us for a fall celebration featuring 18th-century farming demonstrations.

During this event, you can:

  • Explore the Farm.
  • Watch wheat-treading in Washington’s innovative 16-sided barn at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.
  • See how soap was made using 18th-century techniques and help with the process.
  • View demonstrations of 18th-century cooking, textiles, flax and hemp processing and more.
  • Visit the Farrier to learn how horseshoeing was performed in the 18th century.
  • Discover how surveying was done with the Corps of Engineers surveying team.
  • Play colonial games that were enjoyed in the 18th century. 
  • Purchase freshly-baked bread from Half Crown Bakehouse, with a reproduction 18th-century clay oven.
  • Shop for farm-fresh products from Tasha's Own.
  • Learn how perfume was made in the 18th century and shop for your favorite scent from Perrin Cottage Perfumery.
  • Story Time: Farmer George Plants a Nation at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Learn about the innovative farming methods used during Washington’s time. Best-suited for ages 7-12.
    • After Story Time, pick up a scavenger hunt to explore more about farming at Mount Vernon. 
  • Please note that the New Room in the Mansion is closed due to preservation work.
