In a miraculous feat, Washington and his army crossed the partially frozen Delaware River in a torrent of snow and hail. The ice floes were so thick and dangerous that they prevented two other parts of his invasion force from crossing the river at all. He then led his troops to victory at The Battle of Trenton, experiencing, in his words "the greatest fatigue” in “breaking a passage," losing not a single man in the process.
