MOUNT VERNON, VA - George Washington’s Mount Vernon is pleased to announce the hire of Amy Turcotte as its new senior director for development. Beginning in January 2018, Turcotte leads Mount Vernon’s individual and institutional major gifts programs and oversee a philanthropic program which raises more than $15 million annually. Mount Vernon does not accept government funding, and Turcotte’s work will support the necessary preservation, education, and engagement efforts at George Washington’s historic estate.
Turcotte joins Mount Vernon after serving as the director of major gifts at the National Geographic Society where she led efforts to secure philanthropic investments and partnerships with funders from around the world. She previously held positions at The Washington Ballet and Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, the latter at which she helped raise $31 million to complete the organization’s first capital campaign and launch its established major gifts program over the course of her 13-year tenure.
Mount Vernon is the nation’s most visited historic estate, located on the banks of the Potomac River, roughly 15 miles south of Washington, D.C. Mount Vernon’s mission is to preserve and manage George Washington’s beloved home and to educate people throughout the world about his remarkable life and legacy. It is owned by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association (MVLA), a private 501(c)3, founded in 1853 by Ann Pamela Cunningham.
