There's no better way to celebrate Father's Day than with the Father of our Country, George Washington.
MOUNT VERNON, VIRGINIA - On Sunday, June 21, Mount Vernon will open its gates and welcome guests back to the historic estate of our nation's first President, George Washington. The estate has been closed since March 14 in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
"Since the founding of the United States, Americans have come to Mount Vernon to learn about the values we share and the role of George Washington in launching our great experiment in democracy," said Doug Bradburn, President and CEO of George Washington's Mount Vernon. "While we are proud of the work we were able to do online during the closure, we thrive on showing off this extraordinary place. We are deeply honored to be sharing the estate with guests again. The safety of our guests and staff are paramount as we reopen."
Guests visiting Mount Vernon will be required to wear face coverings and maintain six feet of distancing. Mount Vernon will open primarily as an outdoor experience offering guided tours, outdoor performances, and interactions with people from Washington's world.
Interior spaces, including the Mansion, museum, and theaters, will remain closed in Mount Vernon's Level I opening. These spaces will reopen to the public when Mount Vernon enters Level II of our reopening plan, which will be announced at a later date.
Guests can visit mountvernon.org/open to learn about additional safety measures, new requirements for admission, and how best to plan their day.
