Lesson Purpose
A lesson that engages students in an in-depth study of the manners and mores of late 18th century America. Students explore the personal rules of decorum by which George Washington lived and compare and contrast these to the rules they live by today.

- By classifying and categorizing the concerns addressed by the Rules, students will have access to the same source material that informed George Washington and many other 18th century youths. This can provide context for other lessons about George Washington.
- By reflecting on current behavioral norms and by creating a new list of Rules covering the same categories generated for the 18th century Rules, Students will analyze what expectations govern their own behavior.
