What's Happening Inside the Mansion?

Mount Vernon has embarked on a preservation project to safeguard the Mansion’s original building fabric and ensure its structural integrity for generations to come.

Much of the Mansion will be off-view until late 2025.

For three days only, the entire first floor is open to the public so that you can view this historic preservation work in progress. You'll also be able to step into rooms that are corded off on a regular Mansion tour.

Before restoration work commenced in the New Room, the Architecture team undertook the important task of covering the walls with protective plastic to ensure the preservation of this significant space. (MVLA)

See What You Missed

During preservation work, only the New Room contains furniture and objects. The remaining rooms on the tour have been de-installed to allow preservation work to continue.

Take our virtual Mansion tour inside the Ford Orientation Center to see what these rooms look like when furnished.

You can also view the virtual tour at home and on your virtual reality devices with the Mount Vernon VR app.
