The Potomac River was a very important part of life at 18th century Mount Vernon. In addition to providing food, it was also a means of transportation. George Washington a small fleet of all different types of boats that were used for fishing and transporting goods and materials between the different areas of Mount Vernon. Some boats even brought goods to and from Alexandria or places even further away! Boats were also used for travel and helping people stay connected.

Stop by the program to explore three model boats that represent some of the types of boats that were here, learn more about their uses, and make a small boat of your own out of corks!
