Relax and enjoy a patriotic evening that includes dazzling fireworks and musical performances.
Enjoy concessions available for purchase. Outside food is not permitted on the estate.
Fireworks Over the Potomac River
Guests can photograph this patriotic scene as fireworks soar over the Mansion.
Fireworks over the Potomac will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m.
Wreath Laying at the Washington Tomb
Walk down to visit the Washington Tomb for a special wreath-laying; this event is one of the few times this area is open in the evening.
Wreath laying is offered at 6:45, 7:15, 7:45, and 8:15 p.m.
National Concert Band
Listen to a concert by the National Concert Band on the South Lawn from 7:45 p.m. to 9:10 p.m.
18-Century Entertainment
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the bowling green, you can experience a variety of 18th-century entertainments, including:
- an "Iced Cream" demonstration, where Mount Vernon's Historic Trades team will create ice cream the 18th-century way.
- games enjoyed in the 18th-century, like lawn bowling, hoops, and the game of Graces.
- dancing demonstrations and a chance to join in on the popular dances of the 18th-century.
- the Blacksmiths working in the Historic Area.
Museum and Shops
Explore the Donald W. Reynolds Museum & Education Center exhibits, and step into the shoes of the first president in the Be Washington™ Interactive Theater.
The Shops at Mount Vernon are open until 7 p.m.
Seating
Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or small lawn chair to sit on the east lawn. Seating is not provided.
Wagons/carts, oversized chairs, tents, tables, pop-ups, grills, beach or free-standing umbrellas, coolers, and glass containers are not permitted.
All items and bags will be subject to search upon entrance.
