All children that are Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Camp Fire Club members, in uniform or wearing an official pin, are admitted FREE to the estate. The Mansion tour is limited and subject to availability.
Two leaders from each group will receive discounted admission.
Additional adults accompanying scouts will be charged the regular daytime admission fee.
During this time period the Pioneer Farm will not be staffed, however, we invite your troops to:
- Tour the Mansion.
- Lay a wreath at the General's Tomb (must be reserved in advance by contacting our Reservations Office at 703-799-8688 or groups@mountvernon.org).
- Explore our state-of-the-art galleries and theaters in the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center.

Orienteering Course
Use compass coordinates to navigate to eight points around Mount Vernon, just like Washington did on the Virginia frontier. Scouts who complete this activity can purchase the Mount Vernon Merit patch.

Go undercover and test your spycraft skills while exploring the grounds of Mount Vernon. Solve ciphers, decode messages, and tackle challenges on a smartphone.

This guide takes scouts on a scavenger hunt around the estate while learning about George Washington.
Completion of the route included in the booklet will earn scouts the Mount Vernon Historic Trail patch and the George Washington: Farmer patch.
