Visit the tavern where George Washington twice attended an annual Birthnight Ball held in his honor. Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr also visited Gadsby's, in celebration of their victory in the presidential election of 1800. Gadsby's Tavern continues to operate as a restaurant and as a museum.
Carlyle House
121 N. Fairfax St., Alexandria
General Edward Braddock, who had been sent to oversee the French and Indian War, made his headquarters at Carlyle House during his short stay in Alexandria. This 18th-century home is now a museum.
Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum

George Washington's doctors purchased their medicines here. On display are documents with the names of its famous customers, including Martha Washington, Nelly Custis and Robert E. Lee.
Market Square

George Washington and his troops marched from Market Square to confront the French in the French and Indian War. Today, Market Square is the home of city hall and a weekly Farmer's Market.
Christ Church

George Washington attended Christ Church, which was founded as the Church of England when the congregation formed in the 1750s. The church building was completed in 1773.
