MOUNT VERNON, VA - First Lady Melania Trump and Karen Pence, the Second Lady of the United States, visited the Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington (Washington Library) on Monday, February 27. During the visit, the ladies were greeted by Mount Vernon's president Curt Viebranz and Vice Regent Gail Berry West. In the Library's Ann Bookout Reception Hall, the first and second ladies greeted the spouses of 37 Governors, who were visiting Mount Vernon as part of a tour. The FLOTUS delivered remarks and dined with the governors' spouses in the Library's Rubenstein Hall.
The Washington Library is a resource for scholars, students, and all those interested in George Washington, colonial America, and the Revolutionary and founding eras. The building is situated on 15 acres adjacent to Washington's Mount Vernon estate and serves as both a safe haven for his books and letters, and a center for scholarly research and educational outreach. The Library also hosts leadership training programs inspired by the first president's legacy.
The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, the group that owns and operates Mount Vernon and the Washington Library, does not accept government funding.
