Farm

The four-acre farm site explores George Washington’s role as a visionary farmer. Available April - October. 

Distillery® and Gristmill

These fully-functioning reconstructions are located 2.7 miles from the estate’s main entrance.

Tours are offered Saturdays & Sundays, April – October and are included with your Mount Vernon grounds pass.

Group Walking Tours

Enhance and personalize your group's visit by booking a private group tour led by our expert guides and interpreters. 

Advanced booking required and general admission plus additional tour fee per person required. Pricing and availability may depend on the time of year. Some add-on student tours are discounted to $1.50 per participant from mid-November to end-February.

Enslaved People Tour

Listen to the stories of the enslaved people who built and operated Mount Vernon and learn about their daily lives. This tour can be extended with a special wreath-laying at the Slave Memorial.

Recommended Audience: Grades 6-12 & Adults

Program Length: 60 min.

Program Availability: 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.

Lessons in Leadership

Discover General Washington’s accomplishments, character, and vision through the estate he created at Mount Vernon. The tour culminates in a private wreath-laying at George Washington’s Tomb.

Hamilton The Musical Guided Tour
Hamilton Tour

As you “look around, look around” the estate grounds, you’ll discuss the themes of the musical, the real-life events that inspired it, and “who lives, who dies, who tells your story.”

History Meets Hollywood

Available to groups in 2027

Go behind the scenes of the blockbuster National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Hear filming stories, explore the usually off-limits Cellar and Ice House, and discover how these spaces were used in George Washington’s time.

Through My Eyes

Also known as Through My Eyes, groups step back in time and join a person from Washington's world, like his personal secretary or enslaved chambermaid, as they go about their daily activities.

Recommended Audience: Grades 2-8

Learn how George Washington’s innovative farming experiments at Mount Vernon transformed agriculture and helped shape his vision for the future of the nation.

Gardens Tour

Explore George Washington’s gardens on a guided tour highlighting the flowers, produce, plants, and trees he cultivated, and the hired and enslaved gardeners who maintained the landscape.

The Situation Room

Assume the roles of President Washington, his Presidential Cabinet, US Senators, foreign ambassadors, Native American leaders, and members of the press and work together to manage both international and domestic crises in this 75-minute, high-stakes role-playing program.

Recommended Audience: Grades 10-12

Program Length: 2 hours

Program Availability: Weekdays

Cost: $7 per participant + admission. Advance reservation is required. A minimum of 25 participants with a maximum size of 48 participants.

Title One Schools Discounts

Qualified local Title One schools in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia that register for any of these special student programs will receive a 50% discount on student admission.

Visiting with Scouts

Bring your troop to George Washington's estate. Mount Vernon offers a variety of opportunities for boy and girl scouts to explore the past, earn badges, and increase their understanding of America’s first president!

All children who are Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Camp Fire Club members, in uniform or wearing an official pin, are admitted FREE to the estate during Scouting Days!

The George Washington Leadership Institute offers leadership training for aspiring and experienced executives.

Training takes place at George Washington's presidential library, located next to the estate. Programs can range from a half-day to multiple days.

Store Items at the Gatehouse

Need to bring your own lunches or other large bags?  We can secure it at The Gatehouse, located just outside the entrance to the Mount Vernon Inn Complex, for you. Ask a Guest Services staff member at the Ford Orientation Center for assistance. Please note that we do not allow outside food or drink, except for water bottles, on the grounds of the estate.
