Ceremony on Saturday, August 10

MOUNT VERNON, VA – Join Mount Vernon and members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart for the estate's official National Purple Heart Day Ceremony on the East Lawn overlooking the Potomac River at 10:30AM (weather permitting). Enjoy a musical prelude before the ceremony commences. The ceremony includes the presentation of the colors, a musical performance by the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and remarks by Mount Vernon President Doug Bradburn.

The featured speaker for this event is Lieutenant Colonel Matthew J. Kutilek. He is a 2001 graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. Kutilek is a United States Marine Special Operations Officer with 18+ years of active duty service with multiple combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Visit the Purple Heart Memorial, the first stop on the Purple Heart Trail, near the entrance to Mount Vernon. All Purple Heart recipients receive free admission to Mount Vernon every day of the year.
