Thomas Branagan was an indentured joiner that worked at Mount Vernon from 1784 until 1787. Branagan appears to have begun working for George Washington in the summer of 1784. He arrived at Mount Vernon after being hired from a ship that had just landed in Baltimore from Ireland.1 George Augustine Washington paid Branagan four pounds, ten shillings on August 3rd, 1787, "at the expiration of his indentures."2
