Tours are an hour long and may accommodate up to 30 visitors per guide. Tours cost $5.00 per person in addition to group admission, with a 20 person or $100 minimum.
Landscape Tour
Discover George Washington’s skill as an amateur landscape architect. In designing Mount Vernon, General Washington considered not only the mansion, but also its setting. During the years between the Revolutionary War and becoming the first constitutionally elected President of the United States, Washington turned his attention to creating the gardens and vista that would enhance his home, and yet have the work buildings ready and convenient to the main house—a vision both beautiful and practical that tells us much about the man.

Telling Their Stories: Mount Vernon’s Enslaved People
Guests will be introduced to the enslaved families at Mount Vernon who wove a community of rich traditions and social and cultural identities despite great odds. Learn about a typical day in the life of a slave and hear the stories of people like Hercules, Washington's Presidential cook, and Oney Judge, Mrs. Washington's personal servant. Guests will also explore General Washington’s changing attitude toward the institution of slavery.

Adult Walking Tour
This tour is a broad overview of General Washington’s accomplishments, character, and vision through the estate he created here at Mount Vernon. It culminates in a private wreath laying at General Washington’s Tomb.

National Treasure II Tour
Experience Hollywood meeting History! Learn the story of the inspiration for the Hollywood movie and the day to day behind-the-scenes life of Mount Vernon during General and Mrs. Washington's time. Visit the rarely open basement, glimpse into the icehouse, and walk along the Potomac River in front of the mansion. Comfortable walking shoes and mobility are a must--steep stairs and inclined walking paths are part of the tour. The tour concludes at the river, weather permitting.

Hamilton Tour
Our popular Hamilton tour is now offered to groups! This 60-minute specialty tour uses lyrics from the hit musical Hamilton to explore George Washington’s Mount Vernon.
As you “look around, look around” the estate grounds, you’ll discuss the themes of the musical, the real-life events that inspired it, and “who lives, who dies, who tells your story.”
