From the Director’s Monthly Report for February 1997:
“For over a century, a wide range of world leaders have asked for and received special tours of the Mount Vernon Mansion, but we have never conducted a midnight tour like the one taken by Vice President and Mrs. Gore on February 5. The Gores were accompanied by His Excellency Viktor Stepanovich Chernomyrdin, Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, his wife, and a team of advisors. After dining aboard the Cherry Blossom paddlewheel boat on the chilly Potomac, the two men, who hold the second-highest positions in their respective nations, toured all three floors of the Mansion, followed by a brief musical interlude in the dining room.”
