Mount Vernon in Miniature is a featured attraction of the Ford Orientation Center. This popular model of Washington's Mansion, handcrafted with a remarkable degree of detail, was a gift from the people of the state of Washington in 1998.

A Gift from the State of Washington
An international group of more than 50 craftsmen, led by Stan Ohman, Pat Olson, and the late Jean Sprague, were involved in the design and construction over a five-year period.
The model was featured in the special exhibition Treasures from Mount Vernon, which traveled nationally from 1998 to 2000 and then continued touring for several more years as a stand-alone display.
Marget Allison, Vice Regent for Washington, organized the original campaign to support the exhibition and a second effort to update the Miniature's furnishings based on Mansion changes after 1999. Mount Vernon in Miniature underwent additional restoration efforts in 2015 thanks to a generous gift in memory of Talbot deButts Cain, Vice Regent for Illinois (1994-2001), from her family.
