Mount Vernon, VA, May 14, 2026 — This summer George Washington’s Mount Vernon invites visitors to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary at one of the nation’s most iconic and beautiful historic destinations. From fireworks overlooking the Potomac River, the wine festival at sunset, author talks, whiskey tastings, and a new shuttle service, Mount Vernon offers a uniquely American summer experience and a dynamic lineup of programs marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.

As the nation prepares to commemorate its Semiquincentennial, Mount Vernon stands at the center of the story of America’s founding — the home of George Washington and a living place where visitors can connect directly with the people, ideals, and events that shaped the United States.

“This summer, Mount Vernon offers one of the most meaningful and memorable ways to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary,” said Douglas Bradburn, Ph.D., President and CEO of George Washington’s Mount Vernon. “Whether guests are enjoying fireworks over the Potomac, sampling whiskey made using George Washington’s original distilling methods, or walking through the Mansion and historic grounds, they are experiencing the history that created our nation.”

Visitors can now also take advantage of Mount Vernon’s new shuttle service from the King Street Metro station in Alexandria, making it easier than ever to visit without the hassle of navigating downtown D.C. traffic and crowds. The scenic shuttle ride along the Potomac River provides a convenient connection to the estate, while free on-site parking remains available for guests who prefer to drive.

Summer highlights include the popular Mount Vernon Wine Festival and Sunset Tour, featuring Virginia wineries, live music, and evening access to the estate; special author lectures and book talks with leading historians and writers; tours and tastings at George Washington’s Distillery & Gristmill; and tickets now on sale for Mount Vernon’s spectacular Independence Day fireworks and  An American Celebration overlooking the Potomac River. The estate’s recently restored Mansion, immersive museum exhibits, working farm, and gardens make Mount Vernon an essential destination during the nation’s 250th anniversary commemoration.
