Revolutionary War Theater
Want snow without the cold weather? Stop by the Education Center’s Revolutionary War 4D Theater and watch an exciting film about George Washington’s role in the American Revolution. The recently reopened theater features snow falling and wafting fog!
Take in Washington's Views
Before groups of visitors descend on the estate, venture to the east lawn and take a picture of the Potomac River. Sit in the chairs on the piazza and take in Washington's view without crowds obstructing the landscape.
Visit the Museum
The museum's current exhibition, Lives Bound Together: Slavery at George Washington's Mount Vernon, features more than 350 objects in the 4,400 square-foot museum. The exhibition demonstrates how closely intertwined the lives of the Washingtons were with those of the enslaved.
The curatorial staff changes the documents on display twice a year, enabling guests to learn about more people and their stories.
Meet Mount Vernon Residents
Costumed characters stroll through the grounds and mingle with guests. During the winter, visitors can enjoy the characters' company and more personalized interactions.
The characters also lead programs in the Interpretive Center every day at 2pm and 3pm. Weekend visitors can greet Martha Washington and learn about fashion and manners from Tobias Lear.
Peruse the Education Center
The fourteen galleries in the Education Center feature multimedia displays and life-sized figures of George Washington. Examine a replica of Martha Washington's wedding dress and shoes and Washington's dentures while learning about his lifelong teeth troubles.
