Meet the Commemorations Project Team
Philip Levy is a Professor of History at the University of South Florida where he also holds appointments in the Department of Anthropology and in the Patel College of Global Sustainability. He is the author of Where the Cherry Tree Grew: The Story of Ferry Farm, George Washington’s Boyhood Home and George Washington Written Upon the Land: Nature, Memory, Myth, and Landscape. He was a 2016 research fellow at Mount Vernon where he did research for his forthcoming book Washingtonology: Explorations and Excavations of the Life of the First President. He is currently working on a history of the Washington family in Westmoreland County, Virginia and their enslaved people for the National Park Service.
Alaina Scapicchio is currently working towards her Master of Arts degree in History from the University of South Florida in Tampa. She is a graduate of the Ferry Farm field school and has worked as a research assistant for a National Park Service project on the George Washington Birthplace National Monument. She is co-host and co-author of ‘Bring a Sweater; Archive Adventures’ a public history podcast series and has been published by the National Council on Public History’s blog History@Work. She is currently researching monuments and memorials to accused witches in Colonial America.
