Two Lectures on International Alliances in the American Revolution (Open to the Public)

Listen to two lectures about the roles of the Spanish and French in America’s War for Independence.

Historian Dr. Larrie D. Ferreiro, author of Brothers at Arms: American Independence and the Men of France and Spain Who Saved It, will discuss his book and examine the American Revolution as a global conflict, focusing on how the Spanish were crucial to American success.

Historian Randolph G. Flood, host of The Real American Revolution, will explore the alliances forged during the time period and how they impacted the war, focusing on the French involvement.

The public and educators are welcome to attend the lectures, which will run from approximately 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Workshop for Educators: New Strategies for Your Classroom

Immediately following the two lectures, there will be a workshop exclusively for educators. Although it's designed for public school curricula, private and home educators are invited to participate.

The workshop shares strategies for using information covered in the lectures in the classroom through hands-on and engaging activities. Lunch will be provided for educators only during the workshop.

This event is hosted by George Washington’s Mount Vernon in cooperation with the Virginia Council for the Social Studies (VCSS), the College of William & Mary’s Office of Strategic Cultural Partnerships, and The Real American Revolution Multimedia Center & Consortium for Civic Education (trar.us).

Please note: This workshop takes place at the George Washington Presidential Library. Admission to the estate is not included.
