All sales are final. Trick-or-Treating at Mount Vernon takes place rain or shine. Please note that candy may contain peanuts or tree nuts. Supplies are subject to change. While supplies last.

Visit Mount Vernon in Costume

  • Collect candy in your special Mount Vernon treat bag around the historic grounds. This bag is required to collect candy.
  • Snap a selfie at our straw bale selfie station in front of the Mansion on the bowling green. Share your snapshot with us on social media using #MVHalloween.
  • Watch your children in a Costume Parade on the historic grounds at 4 p.m.
  • Stop by the Discovery Cart on the north lane to learn more about privateers and their role during the American Revolution! While you're here, pick up a tricorn hat craft to take home.
  • Greet Lady Washington in the upper garden.
  • Stop by The Shops at Mount Vernon for a small gift for kids. (while supplies last)

Celebrate Halloween with 18th-century entertainment

  • Watch a Punch & Judy puppet show, one of Washington's favorites, at 3 p.m. & 4:30 p.m. on the bowling green.
  • Hear Music of the Revolution at 2:30 p.m.on the bowling green.

Explore the Historic Area

  • Help do soap-making using 18th-century techniques on the 12-acre field.
  • Watch sparks fly at the blacksmith shop.
  • Hear about Mount Vernon's horses on the 12-acre field. 
  • See an 18th-century bake oven demonstration with Half Crown Bakehouse on the 12-acre field. Sample a rusk (twice-baked bread pieces) with chocolate cream from a recipe dating back to the 1760s and using American Heritage Chocolate. (while supplies last)

Mansion Tours Require a Separate Ticket

To tour the Mansion, please purchase a grounds pass with a Mansion tour. A limited number of tickets are also available at the gate.
