By 1799, George Washington had become one of the largest whiskey producers in the United States.
Today we continue the tradition of producing whiskey and small batch distilled spirits at our historic distillery.
Each bottle is produced using 18th-century distilling methods and techniques.
Official Spirit of Virginia
In a bill signed by Governor Terry McAuliffe, George Washington’s Rye Whiskey® was recognized as the official spirit of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
It also received a silver medal at the 2019 American Craft Spirits Association Awards—a top award among white (unaged) whiskies nationwide.

Holiday Closures
Distilled spirits cannot be purchased at The Shops at Mount Vernon or at the Gristmill Shop on Easter, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
According to Virginia law, distilled spirits may only be sold on-site when Virginia ABC retail stores are open. We are not permitted to sell distilled spirits at our retail stores when ABC stores are closed.
These closures do not apply to our online store whiskey.mountvernon.org. Our distilled spirits can be purchased online 365 days a year.
